Below we list Latter-day Saint bibliographic resources that supplement the topics and themes addressed in each chapter. We have included this section in the hope of helping the reader consider application and wider study of the issues addressed in the individual chapters specially as they relate to contemporary Latter-day Saint statements and treatments of such issues. To this end, the chapter is designed for those who are looking for ways to incorporate the respective chapters into teaching, personal study, and application.
While the bibliographies are detailed, they are by no means exhaustive. We have generally focused on listing Latter-day Saint sources that were not cited in the respective chapters and are fairly recent鈥攏amely, published in the last twenty years. The respective bibliographies have been organized chronologically by date starting with the most recent.

Following are statements from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on LGBTQ+ topics:
Kindness and civility: 鈥淭he gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us to love and treat all people with kindness and civility鈥攅ven when we disagree. We affirm that those who avail themselves of laws or court rulings authorizing same-sex marriage should not be treated disrespectfully.鈥 鈥淩esponse to the Supreme Court Decision Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage in the United States,鈥 enclosure to First Presidency letter, June 29, 2015, as quoted in Dallin H. Oaks, 鈥淭wo Great Commandments,鈥 October 2019 general conference.
Eternal perspective: 鈥淭here are many political, legal, and social pressures for changes that would change the definition of marriage or de-emphasize its importance, confuse gender, or homogenize the differences between men and women that are essential to accomplish God鈥檚 great Plan of Happiness. Our eternal perspective sets us against such changes. God鈥檚 love is so great that He requires His children to obey His laws because only through that obedience can they progress toward the eternal destiny He desires for them.鈥 Dallin H. Oaks, 鈥淧resident Oaks talks Church history, LGBT issues, mental illness,鈥 young marrieds devotional, Los Angeles, California, August 24, 2018, https://
www.thechurchnews.com/ leaders-and-ministry/ 2018-08-28/ president-oaks-talks-church-history-lgbt-issues-mental-illness-at-los-angeles-devotional-9061. A place in the kingdom: 鈥淚 want anyone who is a member of the Church who is gay or lesbian to know I believe you have a place in the kingdom and I recognize that sometimes it may be difficult for you to see where you fit in the Lord鈥檚 Church, but you do. We need to listen to and understand what our LGBT brothers and sisters are feeling and experiencing. Certainly we must do better than we have done in the past so that all members feel they have a spiritual home where their brothers and sisters love them and where they have a place to worship and serve the Lord.鈥 M. Russell Ballard, Brigham Young University devotional, November 14, 2017, https://
speeches.byu.edu/ talks/ m-russell-ballard/ questions-and-answers/. A complex reality: 鈥淟et us be clear: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes that 鈥榯he experience of same-sex attraction is a complex reality for many people. The attraction itself is not a sin but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to have such attractions, they do choose how to respond to them. With love and understanding, the Church reaches out to all God鈥檚 children, including [those with same-sex attraction].鈥欌 M. Russell Ballard, 鈥淭he Lord Needs You Now!鈥 Ensign, September 2015, 29.
Working together in love: 鈥淔amilies who have loved ones who deal with same-sex attraction need to work together in love, respect, and affection for one another, while preserving family relationships and loyalty to the Lord. Joining with those who oppose the Lord鈥檚 teachings is counterproductive. Parents, for example, are sometimes faced with how to (support) someone who is struggling with same-sex attraction and all that may come with it and yet not condone or appear to be condoning anything that is inconsistent with gospel teachings and the Lord鈥檚 direction. That will involve conversation and prayer and sometimes difficult choices, and sometimes wonderful success. But the message we have is always to keep trying and keep praying and make sure the lines of communication are always open, and, though it may take time, the Lord will guide.鈥 D. Standards of moral conduct: 鈥淛ust as those who promote same-sex marriage are entitled to civility, the same is true for those who oppose it. The Church insists on its leaders鈥 and members鈥 constitutionally protected right to express and advocate religious convictions on marriage, family, and morality free from retaliation or retribution. The Church is also entitled to maintain its standards of moral conduct and good standing for members.鈥 鈥淟DS Church Instructs Leaders Regarding Same-Sex Marriage,鈥 statement from the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, January 10, 2014, https://
