Note: President Steven J. Sorensen returned to the United States due to heart problems in 2005. President Kris J. Mecham returned to the United States due to his wife’s health around September 2010, and Elder Glad Powell, a senior missionary in Mongolia, served as acting president until President Jay D. Clark arrived in December 2010.
Note: Elder Richard E. Cook was later called as a General Authority Seventy and served in the Asia Area Presidency. Elder D. Allen Andersen served as an Area Seventy and also served in the Asia Area Presidency.
Note: In 2009 changes in the government’s visa laws and system of quotas limited the number of foreigners allowed in the country, including foreign missionaries. The COVID-19 pandemic further restricted and reduced the number of missionaries in 2020.
